A Fond Farewell: I am leaving tumblr

Well folks, it’s been real, but it’s time for me to be moving on. Looking back, I’ve met a few great people on tumblr, and consider myself very fortunate for that. And while I’d like to think another hiatus would fix things, or that I’ll be back on this tumblr someday, the reality is, I just don’t see either of those happening. So, for a number of personal reasons I, regretfully, do not think it is a good idea for me to continue using tumblr.

For the handful of you who actually read my posts, I’ll relocating back to my original wordpress site (actually, I’ll be over here). I hope you’ll stop by sometime and drop a line in the comments section, or maybe send me an email. The import didn’t go quite as well as I’d like, and the theme certainly isn’t as nice, but I guess it’s somewhere to hang my hat, at least for now.

I will continue to check my tumblr inbox for the next week or two if anyone needs to contact me who does not already have my personal contact info.

Fi amanillah.

God is the Greatest... Aisha is in the Hellfire!

For the third successive year, a joyful celebration has been held by Khoddam al-Mehdi (peace be upon him) Organisation on the death anniversary of Aisha daughter of Abu Bakr, the enemy of Allah, (May the wrath of Allah be upon them both). The blessed celebration was hosted by Mr Abdullah al-Khallaf, researcher, and enlightened by the poets Adel al-Khatib and Sa’ad Matloub al-Khafaji. An insightful address was delivered by his eminence Sheikh Muhammad Spanta Cyrous while the main celebration speech was delivered by his eminence Sheikh Yasser al-Habib (May Allah prolong his life), in which he declared our great victory over Aisha and her followers, with the praise of Allah the Most Exalted. His eminence explained how celebrating the death of Aisha has become a global ritual in spite of all those who have stood up against it. At the end, as in every year Mulla Haidar al-Karkhi completed our joyful celebration with his superb voice.

This Ahmed shirazi is truly amazing, is there any english material on him in terms of sunni-shia issues?

Ayatollah Sayyed Ahmed Shirazi is, as you say, truly amazing. He reminds me so much of his uncle, Imam Muhammad Husayn Shirazi (qs). Part of the similarity is that he speaks a great deal on “Sunni”-Shia differences. There are some videos I’ve posted addressing this a little bit with English subtitles. Most of his material to date, however, is in Arabic only, which is really very sad as I’m sure it’s phenomenal. The closest living Shirazi to him in style and substance is probably Ayatollah Sayyed Mujtaba, may Allah prolong his life.

Sayyed Ahmed is yet one more example of what makes the Shirazi family the truly exceptional family of modern Islamic scholars, who have contributed more than any other to the preservation and propagation of true Rafidhi Shia Islam.

Laylatul Qadr PSA

For those of you living in NYC, the first Laylatul Qadr was last night. The next will be on Thursday and then Saturday.

Stop by the Brooklyn Mosque, where we will be doing all the amal on Saturday and a substantial portion of it on Thursday.

For those of you unable to make it, you can find the amal online here.

Also, Saturday has some specific amal. And Thursday night will mark the shahadat of Imam `Ali, peace be upon him.

was it like the complete Qur'an revealed on the night of Qadr?... Then, what about the day of 27th of Rajab prophet Muhammad (sawa) received Surah al-alaq? I'm really confused..

My understanding is that the Qur’an was always with the Holy Prophet in its entirety, and that individual surahs or verses were then (re)revealed on their relevant occasions. However, I will double-check this and post the results in the next day or two, insha’Allah.

I read some narrations in that book by Zaynul Abideen (a) calling Mukhtar a liar and rejecting his gifts or something. Was really confused. Can you access this book and I'll give you the reference?

The book may actually be in Farsi. I don’t have direct access to it, although I used at least one reference from it in my own book. Insha’Allah I will ask the shaykhs about this tomorrow; I’ve spoken with them about some related issues about Mukhtar before, and I’m sure they’ll have heard this and have some understanding of it. Then I’ll repost what I get from them.

What is the book "jilal ul ayun"? It's by al Majlisi apparently, what is it exactly? I've found excrepts from it where Imam Zaynul Abideen (a) apparently calls Mukhtar (r) a liar???

My understanding is that it is a history of the infallibles.

There are narrations in Shi`i sources which cast aspersions upon Mukhtar (rh). However, there are a couple of possible reasons for this:

1) Sometimes to save the lives of their companions, the Imams would do public tabarra from them, including defaming them (so that they would not appear to be one of their followers). This, in particular, complicates the science of rijal.

2) The traditions are simply inaccurate or false.

But I would need to see the actual tradition itself. Mukhtar is complicated from a historical standpoint, in particular because some people say that he believed not in the Imamate of `Ali ibn al-Husayn but of Muhammad ibn Hanafiyyah. In that regard, all I can tell you is what my own shuyukh have told me, which is that this is patently false and that Mukhtar is a hero and without apparent defect.

Is it true that ayesha got killed by Mu'awiya?

Yes, and there are two different stories about this.

The most common is that he invited her to a banquet and had a false floor under her chair. At some point during this, the trap door was opened and she fell into a pit of knives.

In an alternate version, he was having her escorted out of town and a pit had been dug in the earth and then covered up. Her donkey was escorted over it, at which point she fell into it and the donkey fell on top of her.

Please make du`a for the donkey.
