Q: Who is your marja?

A: My marja is His Eminence Grand Ayatollah Sadiq Shirazi, may Allah AWJ prolong his life.

Q: Do you hate Sunnis?

A: No, I do not hate Bakris, however I believe in matters of religion they are misguided (this goes for many Shi`ah as well).

Q: Do you hate Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, Ayeshah, Hafsah, etc.?

A: Yes, and they are cursed by Allah, His Prophet and His angels, and are burning in the Fire at this very moment; may Allah increase their torment.

Q: Were you raised muslim or are you a revert?

A: I am a convert. Prior to coming to tashayyu (Islam) I was an Atheist, although I was raised to be a Catholic.

Q: Are you married?

A: No. I would very much like to find a wife, if Allah AWJ wills, but alhamdulillah, there are not very many single sisters of in my community and many others I have met seem more interested in their own culture (Pakistani/Lebanese/Iranian/etc.) than in their religion. If you are a sister who is seriously looking for marriage (or know one who is), and that’s why you’re asking, then just send me an Ask.

Q: Are you a scholar?

A: No. I am privileged enough to receive regular lessons and guided independent study from three scholars who are, alhadmulillah, all wakkils for the Shirazi family, and are exceptionally knowledgeable. I was accepted into a hawza in Najaf earlier in the year (2011) but was ultimately unable to attend because my mother was being treated for cancer and asked me not to go to Iraq. Insha’Allah I will be able going to visit some different hawzas in Karbala early next year (2012) to determine, insha’Allah, one to attend.

Q: Is x/y/z permissible?

A: Ask your marja, not me; and Allah AWJ knows best.

Q: What do you think of the Islamic Republic?

A: If by “Islamic Republic” you mean Iran, then I do not view it as either Islamic or a Republic.

Q: What do you think of Khamenei?

A: Better not to ask questions to which you would not like the answers.

Q: Ok, fine, what do you think of Khomeini?

A: See the above answer.

Q: What do you think about azadari rituals (zanjeel/zanjeer zani, qama zani/tatbir, etc.)?

A: Based on numerous fatawa, I believe they are rijaa.

Q: Are you a boy or a girl?

A: I’m not sure how this continues to come up. I am a male.

Q: How old are you?

A: 29.

Q: Where do you live?

A: You really haven’t bothered to read the site description at the top of the front page, eh? I live in NYC; Brooklyn, to be precise.

Q: What are you?

A: This apparently always means: what nationality/ethnicity/race/whatever are you. I was born in this country. So were my parents. So were their parents. Go any further back, and you’ll get Irish Catholics, Prussian and Dutch Jews, and a number of other bloodlines.

Q: How did you come to Islam?

A: Look through my blog, you will find at least 2 different answers to this until I am feeling less lazy and just post some links for you.

Q: What do you do for a living?

A: I am a therapist (clinical social worker), and more specifically I practice Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy; currently I work in a substance abuse clinic here in New York. My main clinical interests are in treating traumatic stress and personality disorders, although like most therapists, most of my day-to-day work centers upon mood and anxiety disorders, as well as comorbid substance misuse.
